Unfortunately, Google AdSense is currently the leader in content-related web-based marketing because of the large number of advertisers that promote via Google’s AdWords service. Fortunately, there are several alternatives available for you to employ if your account has been suspended or your website does not comply with their extremely strict terms and conditions. I won’t waste your time or mine by giving you a huge list of possible AdSense alternatives — instead, I have compiled a list of the top 5 alternatives to Google AdSense that offer the most comparable CPM and CPC rates to the big G. I personally recommend trying out multiple alternatives to see which ones work for your website best. Check out the list below:

AdBrite

AdBrite is currently one of the best AdSense alternatives available. Although AdBrite does not offer the same large database of advertisers as AdSense — they do offer you the capability to monetize all the traffic to your website, not just ad clicks. Additionally, AdBrite gives you the option to select which ads you would like to display on your website — you can reject or allow ads not relevant to your site via their control panel. Ad revenue is typically split 75/25 in your favor.

InfoLinks

InfoLinks is a relatively newcomer to the advertisement scene. They claim to be the industry leaders with the most relevant in-text advertisements (a feature also offered by AdBrite). InfoLinks advertisements are extremely unobtrusive and they highlight keywords in such a way that individuals think the linked words are part of your website — and when they click them, you get paid. They also vouch to pay the highest revenue shares in the industry — and from my personal experience, I can definitely say they do.

1. Related Tags — a new feature by InfoLinks that adds a related tags bar to your website. It collects the best keywords based on their algorithms and displays them in a cloud method to be clicked by users.

BidVertiser

BidVertiser is an excellent alternative to Google and offers some intriguing ad formats. They also pay based on CPC and give you the option to free design your ad style — which is not necessarily acceptable by all advertisers. I’ve only used BidVertiser for a short term — but didn’t get any clicks so switched over to AdBrite, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t work for you. Take my advice from above, try out all the services in a one week trial and see which one works best for your website.

1. Conversion Bonus — unlike many other advertising companies, BidVertiser also acts as an affiliate marketer and will pay you conversion bonuses based on how many clicks actually convert into leads.
2. Revenue Generating Toolbar — customize your own toolbar through BidVertiser and get paid every time users use the toolbar to initiate a search.

Clicksor

Clicksor is currently the leader in web-based marketing for small publishers. The revenue share of Clicksor is a market leading 85% for most advertisments and they offer true context-based advertisements comparable to AdSense. They offer payouts through PayPal and do not require a SSN or Tax ID to operate — so you can save on any taxes you may have to pay.

Fastclick works on a cost per 1000 impressions (CPM) basis. That is, you get paid based on every time the ads are shown 1000 times on your website. You get paid whether or not anybody actually clicks on them! You get 65% of the revenue and Fastclick keeps 35%. The banner ads shown are very appealing with some well known companies that use it to advertise, including MSN, Ask Jeeves, and Vonage. To the average layman visiting your site, it would look as though some great companies have personally chosen to advertise on your site bringing it some added credibility. You can also block any inappropriate banner ads from showing on your site.

2. Commission Junction: An affiliate marketing provider. With Commission Junction, you choose which affiliates’ ads to show on your site and then post their banners. This doesn’t pay based on the number of impressions or the number of clicks, but rather someone would have to click on the banner, be taken to the affiliate website, and then either sign up or buy something from that website before you would be paid a commission.
